4DEMON: 4 decades of metals and PCBs concentrations in sediment at the Belgian Part of the North Sea
Assessment of historical data is important for understanding long-term changes in the quality of the marine environment. Within the 4Demon-project, 40 years of historical monitoring and research data on PCBs and metals in sediment in the Belgian part of the North Sea was compiled and quality checked within this dataset to support studies on normalization and long time trends modelling.

Processed dataset aggregating contaminants concentrations of 5 historical and current monitoring and research projects from the seventies to 2015. Only data of metals and PCBs from samples collected in the Belgian Part of the North Sea zone and sampled with a Van Veen grap gear is compiled. Historical analytical methods and stations locations have been checked for correctness. Values have been screened and outliers and out ranged values are flagged. Duplicates records have been discarded.
