Permanent alteration of hydrographical conditions dataset supporting the 2024 Belgian MSFD assessment of D7C1
This dataset is part of the 2024 Belgian submission for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) linked to descriptor 7, criterion 1. This dataset describes the zones that are subject to noticeable permanent alteration of the hydrographic conditions due to human activities and man-made infrastructures for the time period 1992-2022. The data format is shapefiles and includes the zone area (m²) as attribute.

Permanent hydrographical alterations are assessed using a validated numerical model with appropriate resolution, applied first during the environmental impact study of a licensing procedure and refined, where required, by post-construction environmental monitoring. Monitoring is coordinated by RBINS, informed by the environmental monitoring programmes accompanying licenses for new infrastructure at sea. Not applicable — assessment is based on numerical modelling; in-situ current and wave data collected in the licensed area are used for model validation. Validated hydrodynamic numerical model, benchmarked against in-situ data using standard validation metrics (RMSE, bias, standard deviation, scatter plot, correlation coefficient, ROC curves).
