PFAS and dioxines in biota dataset supporting the 2024 Belgian MSFD assessment of D8C1
This dataset is part of the 2024 Belgian submission for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) linked to descriptor 8, criterion 1. This dataset reports concentrations of PFAS and dioxins in biota (mussels Mytilus edulis and flounder Platichthys flesus) in the Belgian part of the North Sea.

General biota sampling and handling follows the OSPAR CEMP contaminants-in-biota monitoring programme; PFAS and dioxins were not listed among the substances analysed in the 2020 programme description, so no 2020-era method detail can be confirmed specifically for these two parameters — please verify current analytical protocol separately. Monitoring is coordinated by RBINS and ILVO under the OSPAR Coordinated Environmental Monitoring Programme and the Water Framework Directive. Mussels (Mytilus edulis) hand-collected at groynes (Nieuwpoort, Oostende, Knokke); flounder (Platichthys flesus) caught by beam trawl. Instrumental method for PFAS and dioxins is not documented in the 2020 monitoring programme description; general biota contaminant analyses at RBINS/ECOCHEM and ILVO follow accredited (ISO17025) methods.
